It wasn't really as stylish as a Quentin Tarantino film. Although Planet Terror would be a film to compare it to.
It had a lot of violence and gore. And it also had massively gaping not-quite-plothole right at the very start. It was an interesting movie, but it didn't have any of the charm(?) of the original. Since it was based mostly in the suburbs, you didn't really have people poking around a temple with cool architecture.

Do not see it for the acting. There was only one character who did any serious development in that movie, and that was basically
"I ditched my asshole boyfriend, wanna ****?"
But if you want to see a lot of violence and gore, well, AvP goes there. And if you didn't think AvP would go there, then it goes there again.
