memory leak issue and partial fix that doesnt make sense to me
hey all,
been playing through the campaign again and i've have some memory leak issues. they mainly occur in larger battles when i fire guns and launch missiles at the same time, repeatedly.  i suspect that it has to do with multiple ships firing misiles at the same instant, but i'm not coder or FREDer so i havnt been able to test that.
heres the odd (to me) fix: if i alt tab out of the game at the pilot screen and close the loader, and suddenly its WAY less common.
comparisons;
played through OC to endgame without this fix, had maybe... 6-8 freeze-restarts, played about 6 more missions with the partial fix and i've had 1.

i have no problem working with this partial fix, but i'm posting in case this helps locate and eliminate bugs in future releases. also, could the launcher be changed to auto close when you click run? (by me or you, if i can do it i'll try)

I'm likely not the right person to solve the problem you're having, but I can predict that the information currently provided is not likely enough for anyone else to do that either. ;)

Could you post the exact version of FS2_Open (and perhaps the MediaVP's and other mods as well, if any) you're using, as well as your system specifications (OS, processor, memory, graphics card) and other things you might think that matter?

Also, you could try and play a debug build until the problem manifests itself, then post the debug log, while you're waiting for more responses.
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

uh i'm running 3_6_10, got it via turey's installer about a week ago. (well updated it a week ago) so whatever he's been distributing is what i've got
comp stats are:
core 2 duo 1.86 ghz, 3 gig corsair pc5400 ram (tested for errors last well, couldnt find any), xfx 7600 gt with 169.21 drivers,  windows xp SP2, latest openal drivers
i dunno if i'll have time to do the debug thing, but i'll see what i can do.
another thing i thought of, its MORE likely to occur when the "apply lighting to missiles" option is ON (though it happens still when its off, just less often)
command line:
-mod mediavps -spec -glow -env -mipmap -dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -rearm_timer -3dwarp -warp_flash -snd_preload
and i'm using opengl at 1280x1024x32bit, trilinear, AF & AA both maxed (both at 16x) and generic software for sound

First suggestion is to go back to 3.6.9.  3.6.10 is not a final release. 

To get around the launcher issue you can do the set up in the launcher, apply it, then just make a shortcut with the command line from the launcher.  Then you don't need to run the launcher unless you want to change something.
