Man-Whore's first model
I basically threw some simple shapes out there and then used the move tool on various angles for a while.

a) Your thoughts? I've really only used Sketchup for architecture up until now, and I'm not really sure how this'll stack up.

b) In the process of making, many many unnecessary polygons were made; mostly on the interior where they cannot even be seen. What's a good way of deleting the lines that make these without seriously messing up the model's appearance?

Intersect your shapes, then delete the unneeded lines.

I like the general shape, I think its very strong conceptually.  There are some very funky shapes on the nose though....might want to re-work that some.

The nose is FUBAR'd, but nothing a little intersection cant fix (okay so maybe alot :p) as for the shape, its very starwarsy, id like to see what it turns out like

Re: Man-Whore's first model
The front nose is really going to have problems, you wouldn't be able to import that ship into PC2 or Freespace 2.

I'm gay.

Re: Man-Whore's first model
I'm slightly confused. . . Besides the nose being horrifically ugly (which I'm working on through intersecting), what's it's problem? I'm getting the feeling that I committed some sort of a geometric sin.

Sorry, but the internet is horrible with these things. Was that sarcasm?

And BTW, you're model looks pretty good, it's just that in the places with the intersecting faces you might want to outline the intersection vertices and just delete the excess stuff on the inside of the model. From what I can tell, that's why you think you''ve killed the geometry.

Re: Man-Whore's first model
The rear end of it reminds me of the Hecate a lot  If you add a 'head' to the nose, like the one of the Deimos, the Iceni or the Hecate, it would be very suitable for Post-Capella campaigns IMO.

Re: Man-Whore's first model
I like a challenge. I've done quite a bit of fixing bad geometry on models. If you want to export that to something trueSpace 6.6 can read, I'll be happy to have a look at it.

Re: Man-Whore's first model
Okay, I'm back! Sorry to post-and-run like that. So I did a little bit more work on it. The nose looks more natural. I intersected and deleted some ****, and finally I smoothed things over just for giggles.

Huh, I didn't know this was a profanity-free hub. That sucks.

Thanks; no thanks.

I think I'll leave that one open to interpretation.

The homophobes (I'm sure they're out there, luriking, waiting) will make you live to regret that move.

That's assuming I am, in fact, gay.

And no, I am afraid you are quite wrong. Not about them being here because I've seen them--er, read their posts on various occasions, and if they choose so they may be rude to me, but they will not succeed in making me regret that move. That's just silly.
