X wing Alliance/Freespace
I have heard tell of being able to port X-wing Alliance Upgrade ships to FreeSpace 2...

Does anyone know how you can do that? Thanks.

Re: X wing Alliance/Freespace
You need to convert XWA's OPT files to COB and open them in trueSpace. Searching for OPT2COB in Google might help. Then save and use PCS to make its FreeSpace-readable POF file.

That's the outline of it.

I tried searching for that, it seems the only tool for converting OPT files to... Anything is something called OPT2PRJ.

I don't know that file format.

Ask GalEmp. He can probably help you with that. He converted some models.

Yes and no....

I did not know about the opt/cob one, but  I did it the LONGER way opt/3ds then to cob

Anyway most of the models have WAY more textures than SCP handles comfortable (average of 48). While the majority of those would work in RETAIL (much like many of the old Trek conversions I started then) they won't work as is in SCP. The ones I posted recently I had to knock off 20-30 textures and fight with my non-existent skills to make it look decent but they are NOT accurate, merely my interpretations.

IE instead of having several basic hull textures whittled down to ONE base texture that works for all those sections at once...

So you see while it sounds easy there is more than meets the eye to the process...

I know you didn't say SCP, but I imagined you weren't asking about RETAIL FS2...

If you are a modeler/texturer these challenges are nothing to you, but there is no such thing as a direct port for SCP FS2 unless you severely edit those models first.
