MrMittens here, with s'more questions
Topic un: So, a while back I posted my first attempt at a space-shippy type model; a battle carrier. If anyone looking at this happens to recall, the edges were very smooth. If you didn't see it, the edges were very smooth. This looked pretty spiffy, but it made editing extremely difficult since the entire thing was basically one big surface. And hence my question:

Is there a way (in Google Sketchup) to un-smooth lines?

Topic deux: Mmkay, so my second model. Given how good y'all are about making creative ships, I'd like some feedback. (Especially on the ass-end.)

Looks Sath-Like from the back-end. I'd show the Teeth of the Tiger staff. As for your problem, I'm only starting modeling, and don't use SketchUp.

The only way to unsmooth lines is to manually recreate them... I never, NEVER smooth lines

Yeah. Didn't mean to do that.

No sketchup? But why ever not?

Is there a way (in Google Sketchup) to un-smooth lines?

1) Select all the geometry you want to unsmooth (if it is part of a component/group you must be editing the component/group)

2) Window -> Soften Edges (might be different on windows)

3) In the window that comes up, move the slider all the way to the left.

Ok, I know I was a big SU supporter in the past, but really, if you want into serious game modeling, don't use it. Get a different prog - SU simply doesn't have the export capabilities to make it useful at all in a game setting, sorry. I'm using modo, which I, ahem, *acquired*, and it's quite awesome.

Good thought, but tried it already. Doesn't work on account of me using a variety of different degrees of smoothing throughout the model.

To un-smooth individual edges, show hidden geometry, select the edge(s) you want to unsmooth (you can only select edges), and then in the entity info window, deselect soft and smooth.

If you're trying to smooth those edges on those arms, they probably won't smooth because you have faces inside the model. take a look and see.
