Campaign Music Resources
One of the most frustrating parts of creating a campaign is (as I am learning) finding the music that is just right for a given mission. I'm surprised that there's not been a thread like this on the forum yet, but here goes: a list of free music resources.

  • Freeplay Music contains a positively biblical number of freely available music tracks which come in every genre imaginable, and in a variety of different lengths. Very handy for finding good ambience music in a pinch.
  • Justin R. Durban, aka "Edgen", is a freelance composer who distributes a lot of his music for free download in addition to albums that can be purchased online. He's quite prolific, and if you've played online flash-based games or watched independently-released films on the internet for any length of time, odds are good that you've already heard his music score somewhere. I, personally, am in love with "Alpha Command".
  • The Newgrounds Audio Portal contains music released by musicians of varying skill going back years, including our very own blackhole. Please note, however, that attention must be paid to the fact audio tracks are released under a variety of different terms and licenses.

Suggestions for additional free audio sources--and even regular bands that you like--are welcome and will be added in as they are posted.

Boystrous 19 year old temp at work slapped me in the face with an envelope and laughed it off as playful. So I shoved him over a desk and laughed it off as playful. It's on camera so I can plead reasonable force.  Temp is now passive.

XtremeMusic.com isn't free, is it? It's owned by Sony if my guess is right.

I think it hosts both freeware and shareware music.

EDIT - The freeware music it "hosts" are actually linked to Freeplay Music, mentioned by Rick James.

You forgot Eric "Blackhole" McClure.
(his music is used in Tides of Darkness)
My favourites are "Renascent" and "Temperature of Loneliness" (Temperature).

Re: Campaign Music Resources
There already are several threads of this kind. The "problem" with additional music tracks is that they appear in custom campaigns, only. When looking for music, a developer knows what to do. It's even possible to hire artists and ask them to create exclusive music for campaigns/mods.

Both Inferno and Earth Defense, for example, have plenties of exclusive music tracks. :)

Position Music might be of interest.

Re: Campaign Music Resources
Very helpful for those of us who like the standard music with the game but need something a bit more fitting. Freeplay Music is probably the best.

I used this for the Rogue Intentions trailer.  They're not free, but each album is only about 5 bucks for download at Amazon.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Re: Campaign Music Resources
Not to mention that a vast portion of them compatible with FreeSpace missions, depending on the atmosphere. From adrenaline-filled BOE's to dangerous infiltration missions . . .
