hi there!

ive downloaded FSO with the second graphic improvment marked ( the "making FS looking MUCH better" thing )
and i am now looking for a way to play without it. can i get lost of it without deleting and downloading everything again? can i simply delete the adveffects files or will it crash the whole thing?

If you want to play without the media VPs you can simply click on No Mods in the mod section of the launcher (for FS2). If it's only adveffects you want to turn off you can simply rename it to adveffects.vpDisabled or something to make it so FS2 won't find it.

Also, for future reference, make sure you have the mediavps in a subdirectory.

and btw! am i the only one who misses the gunmount and missiletype markers in WC saga? u know the arrows which show which gun or missile is active?

new one: the hi res pack(sparky_hi_fs2.vp) option is still marked and i cant change it.....!?

I was kind of assuming you had the mediavps in the root directory of FSO.

just the "sparky_hi_fs2.vp" is in the fs2 mainfolder

The MediaVPs in your \mediavps\ folder (the files beginning with either mv_ or mp_) are the new textures, models and such. Those are responsible for your FreeSpace looking so good. If you do not want to use them, do what kara said: select No MOD from the Launcher's (Launcher.exe) MOD tab. sparky_hi, and anything you have in \freespace2\, are retail files and removing them causes evil things. So don't do that.

but i just want to get rid of the second graphic improvement (the one for realy new computers, "zeta advanced media vps" and so on) ive renamed all the adv... files
but will it work? whats about this "hi res pack(sparky_hi_fs2.vp)" option in the launcher its still on does it matter?

Yes. If you've changed their file association so that they're not .vp files anymore. An alternative is to move them away from \mediavps\ altogether.

Like I said, sparky_hi is a retail file. Just leave it there. It's '99 high res so it will have no effect on the game performance on your computer. And if you remove the file, you will be limited to 640x480 which equals not fun.
