Lots of alternative energy options available.  Whatever ones make the most sense...by all means.  It won't just be solar or just wind...and there is more than one way to capture that energy too.

This is cool. I'd have to say solar thermal energy is a cooler idea, but obviously we'll need most of these ideas, if not all. I live next to the train tracks that carry coal to the power plant in Colorado Springs. Every day, twice a day, more coal than I can comfortably imagine gets carried that way. Even if global warming is a hoax (I'm not saying it is) I don't think it's possible for there to be enough fossilized organic matter to keep everyone powered for that much longer. Few hundred years maybe.

Nuclear? Yeah, lets get stuck on yet another power source that has a very finite limit on how much of it there is, and that other countries control. That way, if China wanted the US to go away, they could just invade Australia. Good plan.

Tidal power. Large floodgate-type structure and holding basin. Collect water on one side at high tide, and dump it through a generator at low tide.

better idea run it through the generator when on high tide while filling the basin, and when emptying it.

Very small amount of energy in a very long period of time. Shame, though, because it's a great idea.
