GTD Orion - issue or a feature?
Here's the pic that explains it all

http://www.speedyshare.com/511658949.html

(sry for the image, but none of the image hosts work for me, dunno way, just take ages to upload an image and then resets the connection :P uploading isn't the greatest side of my connection)

I am using yesterday's build (20081006) all the effects on.

BTW what's with the asteroids?
"Look'n'lag homie"
I mean, I look at them and then it lags (whether their in sight, or just should be, but something's in the way of my x-ray vision)

I know my post hurts but I can't help it.

Let's focus on the GTD Orion

It's an issue; something's wonky with the transparency.

I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta

Re: GTD Orion - issue or a feature?
I'd like to add new information:
a) the "GTD ORION" is visible only at two or three angles
b) only at very close distance

So, is it 'to be fixed', or it can't be fixed?

BTW Why it's there at all?

Re: GTD Orion - issue or a feature?
The roid lag is a known issue that has been corrected on the internal build, but it's very odd that you're able to see the orion nameplate. In the beta vps, the texture 'nameplate' is that orion nameplate wording, but it should be 100% transparent.

I suppose the lack of a shine map might be causing that effect - since I *think* the game uses the diffuse as the shine map if none is found. Here that would cause the words to become visible from certain angles.

Re: GTD Orion - issue or a feature?
That doesn't explain much, acutally... it looks like the Fenris is using the Orion nameplate.

Re: GTD Orion - issue or a feature?
Err, no have a look in the betas - "nameplate.dds" has GTD Orion written on it, but it should normally be fully transparent. I think what's happening here is that the game is finding no dedicated nameplate shine map and so re-using the diffuse map for that purpose, meaning it will only appear when the nameplate would shine.
