Well, as for the problem with the payment - MANY times a credit card is mistaken with a debit card. A debit one is what you get almost always from your bank - however, they are very rarely accepted in online purchases, because it's merely a physical representation of your bankl account. on the other hand, a credit card, bought separately and only per request in a bank, has some kind of an amount of money stored on it, and is not directly connected to your account. Therefore, instead of going through all the trouble of transferring the money from bank to bank, they just take the money from a credit card.

However, I believe that PayPal now supports direct transfers from bank to a PayPal account, and since GOG accepts PayPal, I don't know where's the problem. Believe me, where's will, there's a way.

Just in case - don't even mention piracy to the GOG team. Ever. Here in Poland, we are very sensitive on this subject, because piracy is still a huge problem.

May I suggest that we all chill out and stop taking all this so seriously. Having come back from a 4 month hiatus (so am perhaps taking a neutral view), I can say that ppl are getting WAY too finicky about FSO. It's for fun guys! Of course legality is very important, but isn't this a free open community project?

I still fail to see just how we're being rude or insulting or something like that. You asked if we could post download links for FS2, we said no and explained why, and now you claim that we're being inflammatory, aggressive and whatnot.

The point here is that FS2 download links aren't posted because we want to support GOG. I've PMed download links to a person a while back, but even then it was about two files that were corrupt, actually already on his disks. And to avoid all sorts of other criminal activities from occurring, I uploaded them temporarily to my webspace and indeed PMed the links so that no one else would know about them.

Now, this is all your fault really, since you're the one who locked his FS2 somewhere far away. You can't blame us for it. And I really see no problem here. Either get the disks when you're visiting the location, or ask someone to mail them to you, or suffer because of your own actions.

In order to revise, no one here will post FS2 links. But, there is one link that might help you on your quest: this one.

i personally dont find the community rude or arrogant but im sure many ppl here have links that they could pm....... at this point it is an individuals  and not a community promotion.....

as for the support for gog this is good but the question still stands that "is the product good" having read and helped out with many ppl having problems trying to upgrade there gog install..........

this in no way is a critisism its just to try and find some way to see it from both sides .............

More likely it's been forgotten or overlooked because it's been forgotten or overlooked. I wiped at least a couple of links I put up when GoG came out.

While that is generally true, there are options available that combine the best options of credit and debit cards.  I mentioned the Visa debit card earlier; it can be used as a credit card for online shopping purposes, but the money is withdrawn directly from your checking account.  I've found it to be an extremely useful tool.

That Visa debit card is more commonly referred to as the Visa Check Card I believe.  I had one until I found out they charge you for not using it, so I canceled it.  But that's one of the biggest peeves I had when I worked retail.  You'd ask someone credit or debit, and sometimes they'd look at you like you're crazy, or actually get angry because they just assume you should be able to tell when it's a card you've never seen before, or they have a card that works both ways, and for some reason they've never been asked until now.  I had two cards from my bank actually, a ATM/Visa Credit card, that worked as a true credit card or a regular debit card depending on which option you choose, and I had the Visa Check Card, which could be verified by PIN or Signature the same as the other, but both methods pulled straight from the bank account, so it was basically a debit card that you could sign for instead of using your PIN.  Why the hell anyone thinks that's a good idea is beyond me.  It's bad enough I write SEE ID on my credit card and I can still spend $100 somewhere and not be asked for my license, and it's funny to go to a gas station and spend $3 and be asked for it.

On that note, it doesn't seem like this thread is being very productive towards its original purpose, suggest locking.

I didn't realize that it charged for inactivity.  I guess I've used it frequently enough to get by that, or maybe it's a per-bank policy.  The dual nature does get a bit strange when you're making a purchase in person.  From what I understand, it's generally considered a bit safer to treat it as a credit card, since you get the protections that that entails; I could be wrong on that, though.

And given that I helped drive it off-topic, you're probably right.
