Crash when using OpenGL [SOLVED]
Hi

I am using FSO 3_6_9 and I get a crash whenever I use OpenGL. If I just use use the normal exe I can play as long as I want, but my computer crashes when I exit the game (or alt+tab or alt+ctrl+del). If I use the debug exe it crashes when I load a mission.

I tried downloading the newest drivers for my grapichs card, but it did not help. Direct 3D works fine, but gets laggy whenever allot is going on (lack of RAM I guess).

Grapichs card: NVIDIA Geforce FX 5900
OS: Windows XP SP 3

The errorlog I get when I use debug mode says:

Well since you ran the debug build attach the fs2_open.log from the data directory.
No-one ever listens to Zathras. Quite mad, they say. It is good that Zathras does not mind. He's even grown to like it. Oh yes. -Zathras

You seem to have rather old exe file in use... Try new one instead.

I tried with the 3.6.9 and 3.6.10 exe from the current installer. 3.6.9 still does the same thing, while 3.6.10 instantly crashes.

Just to be sure I am not forgetting anything. I just select the exe I want to use in the launcher, set OpenGL under video, press apply and run.

Select the new 3.6.10 debug build, run it and then post the newly generated log (or zip of it) here.

Hmm... Not sure.. Make sure your desktop is set to 32 bits. You could try getting the new mediavps instead of the older set you seem to have.

If those wont help then you should do as described here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,56279.msg1180359.html#msg1180359 and post the improved log here... This time however needs to be compressed so that it could be used as an attachment.

Ok now I can play using 3.6.10, but it still crashes when I exit the game. I have attached the log.

I spy with my sexy eye two wrongs in your log:

1.

These two vps are not needed (as evidenced by the fact that they contain 0 files).

2. You are missing sparky_hi_fs2.vp. In theory that shouldn't cause problems since it only contains the high-res interface art. But then again, it could cause something since you are experiencing crashes during game exits and the interface art is heavily used during such operations.

IT WORKS! I reinstalled and patched retail FS2 and deleted the files you said where useless. The game is going to be so much greater now without a 2 sec lag each time a beam is fired or a bomb explodes.
