I think the Nathaniel is done. All that's left is tweaks (like closing off the launching tube). Other than that, I could probably hand this beast over to anyone who has a use for it.

Input still greatly appreciated.

I've been poking at a rebuild of an old design. I suppose it will be an overly large carrier when its complete. I'd like some opinions on the overall design so far, and if possible, some suggestions where it could use improvement. For the record, the four big nacelle things are the engines and they are at the aft end of the ship.

I think Venom wants to use it for one of his fleets in OtT. I'm going to try to texture it (if he ever sends me those maps), but I think it'll have to be textured by someone else, in the end.

I might also build it up as an Iwar2 ship to replace the carriers in the game. It'd still need textures though.

looks like you could cut some polys from the back end of that thing, and if this is to be in freespace then you're gona probly need to cut some of those, I'm guessing there comand structures, into subobjects

I was figuring the isolation decks (the tower on the starboard side) would be a destroyable subobject. Perhaps the upper decks could also be destroyable, along with the forward observation section.

At some point, I suppose this thing would need to have turrets and beam apertures and the like added to it as well. Also, there's an awful lot of overmodelled geometry in the engines that could probably be replaced with some sane texturing.


KillMeNow, I don't know what you mean by my own fleet. I just build ships in 3d. The Nate's original design is from a prior shipline that I did in Truespace a long whie back. I think I entered it in the modelling contest.

Get with me after I finish working on this one. I still owe models to a few other people.

I think I just figured out how to generate really useful UV sets in Lightwave. If I'm right, not only will I be able to texture the Nathaniel, but I'll be able to texture the Nephirseti (that should make Untouchable happy) :D

I feel like the biggest damn lightbulb in the world came on over my head. :lol:

I just found ALL the useful stuff for the first time KMN. I had to break out the manuals to find the stuff, since I never do any texturing in Lightwave.

The atlas maps, though, are actually the most help, since I'll be able to use them as a guide for applying some prerendered textures. :)
