The "Getting Started" page
Lobo has written an article to help get newbies acquainted with FreeSpace, the FreeSpace community, and FreeSpace Open.  I've linked it in the top navbar.  Anyone have any comments?

Re: The "Getting Started" page
That's pretty thorough.  Only suggestion I would make is an addition about the symptoms of corrupt VPs and what to do about them, since that problem has shown up a LOT lately.
If you don't have Knossos, you need it.

“There was a button," Holden said. "I pushed it."
"Jesus Christ. That really is how you go through life, isn't it?”

Re: The "Getting Started" page
That's a very specific problem.  This page is supposed to be a general overview, not a step-by-step troubleshooting guide.

You're right.  I didn't think about that.

Re: The "Getting Started" page
It needs to be linked to from several pages (maybe including the Main Page) to make it easier to find to those who really come to the FSWiki without any knowledge of what it's about.

Also, I suggest renaming the Getting Started(Main) article to make its title more specific. [EDIT]I moved it to Getting Started (FreeSpace Open), as it's really about getting FreeSpace Open

And here is this page: http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Getting_started_with_FreeSpace_2 This article is about installing the games. We have quite a few of How-to-install articles already.

We somehow have to harmonize these articles. At the moment, a newcomer is given three "Getting started" pages. What about merging the three? The first one (topical) is an introduction to the FreeSpace games and the community, the second one is about the SCP, the third one is about installing.

Re: The "Getting Started" page
Maybe there should be one big "table of contents" page.  Whichever we decide, we need to figure out what the link in the top navbar should point to.

I would even say there needs to be a fourth "Getting Started" page... "Getting Started with Troubleshooting", per Lobo's FAQ. :)

Re: The "Getting Started" page
Looks OK. Two small comments :

- The page should hint and even talk about the High Resolution stuff and other graphic upgrades, which are great. It took me more than one year to understand what those High Resolution things were. I thought that what was coming with Turey was ALREADYthe High Resolution. (hey, FS "was an old game").

- In "what is SCP", the page should explain that SCP applies to FreeSpace 2 only (and not Descent : FreeSpace), and then explain what the FSP is.

Speaking about Descent : FreeSpace, maybe it should be said that there is little to no connection with Descent.

Re: The "Getting Started" page
Response time is terrible, I know, but currently I have exams 'n **** every week and haven't had too much time to focus on this project. But I edited the article based on the feedback so far. Feedback is still welcome and if someone is 1337 with the Wiki, feel free to do something with the appearance of the article if it seems awkward.

Re: The "Getting Started" page
I did a number of minor alterations to it. All in all, I'm content with the page.
