I was in the middle of Where Lighting Fall yesterday when my joystick started having problems turning to the right. By the time I got to the Grall the only way I could effectively turn to the right was turning all the way around left. So I need a new Joystick and need some suggestions. Currently looking at Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, but what do you all use and what would you suggest?

My suggestion is to abandon all thoughts of getting a Logitech stick full stop. They use dodgy electronics (crappy potentiometres are the worst offenders) and therefore aren't very accurate sticks. Prone to develope calibration problems as well,  a nice addition to the general jittery behaviour...

I'd look at the new Saitek Cyborg X or the Saitek Aviator sticks. I use Saitek Cyborg Evo. T'is good.

  • Do try it.
I use an Evo as well. Good stuff :)

The Cyborg X is very good, I recommend you go for that :D In fact, I was almost considering buying one..... but..... I don't have an excuse to buy a new joystick after only using this one since the beginning of 08

Or you could check out Thrustmaster's T.Flight Stick X or T.Flight HOTAS X.

I like the Cyborg X.. it looks leaps and bounds above the PoS Attack 3 i've been using for a few years. Only thing I like about the A3 is the quad button placement ive adapted to using. Left is countermeasure, bottom is H target, top is secondary, right is Y target. I think I'll buy this but its only available online.. no retail in the area has it :/

New Cyborg X is a good mid-range stick. Run away from Logitech.

I respectfully disagree. My Logitech Attack 3 stick has been alive and kicking well for the last, well...at least 4 years, which I think is an incredibly long life span for a joystick. That's also accounting for my violent temper tantrums I threw at it when I was around 11 or 12 years old. I use it routinely to this day, including once I play Freespace again in about 10 minutes. :P
Fun while it lasted.

Then bitter.

Good for you. A lot of Logitech sticks go bad very fast, some right out of warranty, some last long and behave well. They are just dodgy as a whole, which is why I would suggest other manufacturers in this case.

Yeah, I do agree. Which is why I plan to get that shiny Saitek Joystick you mentioned once mine dies out. :D

Lucky. I had 2 Wingman Attack 2s die within minutes/weeks, and a Force 3D that wouldn't work. My Saitek, and from what I've heard Saiteks in general (talking midrange sticks here) rarely die, and are of good quality.

Yeah, I had a force 3D that died in a year. Didn't like that one. Then I went back to my attack 3.
Fun while it lasted.

I'd recommend going with Saitek.  I have their X52 and couldn't be happier.  Although, if you could find a MS Sidewinder Precision 2 Pro, that would be a good investment too.  It just has wishy-washy driver support under XP.  But I got it working none-the-less.

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occurred during the same week.  This is an ironic juxtaposition of events--one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog.
