Question about steam
I am trying to install DOW 2 on my PC, i have had it on before but had to remove it, now i would like to play it again but whenever i install it steam always starts the patching process as soon as it is installed and the game will not work until patching is complete. I know there is an offline mode but by the time i get to that the game is updating. Is there anyway to stop this as i just want to have a few skirmish games without waiting 4 hours(takes how long it to last time) for the patch to install?

I tend to find that trying to fix those sort of things takes longer than waiting for the update to e honest ;)

Doh! I will never understand why they simply cannot give you a choice if you want to update the game or not like impulse does. That is only thing i don't like about steam.

Re: Question about steam
Right-click - Properties - Updates.

Though that may not work if with a brand-new install.

However, most Steam games work best with all their patches applied, so I wouldn't recommend going that route.  Just wait for it to patch.

Yeah, but occasionally, Steam's patches break the game.  Half-Life: Opposing Force is impossible to complete without cheating.  The last update broke the game.

That depends on whether you like what the patch does. I can think of a few games in the last few years (namely C&C3 and KW) where a patch was released but heavily changed the game balance and was something to be avoided.

Re: Question about steam
The thing i was bored with my other games and just wanted a few skirmish games on DOW2 for a few hours but i didn't want to have wait half a day for the thing to update because i have a very bad broadband connection, according to BT my house is the very last on the line which is why my connection is so slow. I  just wanted to install it and away i go and for some reason when patched up DOW2 on my system the framerate is reduced and i get i whole load of weird things happening, where as retail version runs brilliantly
