These two are looking pretty good, but the descriptions say they recommend a 500W power supply. I've got an old 430W Antec Truepower, should I just play it safe and get a new PSU while I'm at it? If so, what are the good brands nowadays?

EDIT: How 'bout this?  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004

That one is good, but this is a bit better for the same price.

Out of those cards, get the XFX one. In the past, Nvidia always had an advantage over ATI with their superior board partner companies (in terms of warranty and support), but ATI has become more attractive since XFX started selling their cards earlier this year.

Re: In the market for video card
Just a random question: where do you live? Because both scenarios have the graphics chipset being ~5 years out of date (with the chips themselves being 8-9 years old).

China, the reason why I switched computers is because my old one died, so I got this second hand one at a relatively cheap price. My previous computer I got in 2003 in the US, had a 2.4 GHz P4, 384 MB of RAM and a Radeon 7500 with 16 MB independant memory (not integrated). My current one has an Athlon XP 2000+, 752 MB of RAM, and an integrated Radeon 7000. This computer is actually from the same era but it was originally a lower priced design.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Re: In the market for video card
I ordered the XFX 4890, 650W Corsair PSU, and 2 x 1GB of the highest reviewed DDR2 1066 RAM I could find.

Thanks guys. :)
