BUG (linux): Heavy graphical artifacts
Yes, I know, this should go in mantis, but it doesn't allow me to register. Already tryed two times, it said it had sent me an email but it didn't, so I can't do a proper bug report.
Follows the bug report

System configuration:
FSO >= 3.6.9 (tested with 3.6.9 release linux binary, 3.6.10-20080717 linux binary, latest linux nightly, 3.6.9-windows under wine)
OS: Linux (Opensuse 11.0 and 11.1 releases)
card: Ati Radeon 9200SE (RV280)
Xorg 7.4, Mesa >= 7.2 (7.4.1 and 7.2), opensource DRI R200 driver (please note, no propietary ATI driver exist since ATI/AMD dropped support for R200 based cards quite a time ago)

Problem detected:
I have heavy artifacts which seem caused by background textures. Most background textures are gone, though not all.
Disabling hardware TCL with driconf still leaves some artifacts, although fewer. Still, most background textures are gone.
Tryed all commandline switches, the only one which fixes those artifacts is -nohtl. But using -nohtl means shots and impact effects are invisible, I can't see where I'm shooting or if I hit the target.

I know, totally off topic, but: oooh, pretty.
When someone figures this out, can they implement it properly? :P
STRONGTEA. Why can't the x86 be sane?

Re: BUG (linux): Heavy graphical artifacts
ok is this possible to try to run in linux and not through wine as for me that just adds another problem in the game ...(having never had much success with FSO and wine)

try and also get a more recent build , there is a new 3.6.10 rc2 build

and see if that makes any difference

ps thanks for the wallpaper its nice

May be I have confused you, I tryed:
3.6.9 linux "official" binary build
and
3.6.10-20080717 linux binary (downloaded from "Cross-Platform Development" subforum)
and
3.6.10-20080717 compiled from sources
and
3.6.11-20090511_r5227 latest nightly linux build (binary downloaded from Nightly builds subforum)
And, to add some ice to the cake: 3.6.9 windows "official" binary build (under wine this one)

All of them had the same issue.

I think 20090511_r5227 is the very latest (not even a week old)

You are right, sorry for the typo.

Re: BUG (linux): Heavy graphical artifacts
Hi,

i have the same problem too. Ok, only with the nebulas at the background, but it's bad too.  :wtf: It looks a little bit strange if there is a nebula with purple lines... I use Sidux KDE (based on Debian)

is there any fix for it or do i have to install windows?

Re: BUG (linux): Heavy graphical artifacts
Are you also using an ATI card old enough not be supported by the proprietary driver?

Re: BUG (linux): Heavy graphical artifacts
Every Card older then 2 years or so are no longer supported by the ATI fglrx driver (F*** ATI) but many users like me have Notebooks and can't just change their graphiccards.
I have the same Problem and aditionaly get something like this

FSO version 3.6.10.RC3
the newest mediavps
Opengl 1.3 Mesa 7.4

Re: BUG (linux): Heavy graphical artifacts
Changed the card to a newer one (Radeon 9550, r300 chipset) and updated Mesa to 7.5 (opengl 1.4 on this card), and tryed with fs2_open 3.6.10
Still the same problem, and not only affects background textures, but big ships too.
This makes the game unplayable on almost all AGP Radeon cards on linux (and many PCIe ones) since anything below R600 is out of the propietary driver.
Please, have a look at it. At least, make the shots visible with nohtl

Not if he is using Ubuntu 9.04 or anything that uses the latest X.org. It's not like on Windows where those drivers can be easily reused, unfortunately.

Re: BUG (linux): Heavy graphical artifacts
To all affected, it seems Mesa 7.6 finally fixes the issue in R300 based cards.
