Display/resolution/shaking screen problem...
Greetings,
I have just installed Freespace 2 with add-ons according to instructions on this page:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,65038.0.html

When I run the game using this launcher 55e, the screen is scaled down and it is slightly shaking. I've tried to change video settings in Launcher, but it doesn't help, even if I set them exactly as my monitor settings.
When I run the game using original, default game launcher, everything is fine. I get full screen, the screen is not shaking.

Could you tell me how to resolve this issue? I don't know where to start, what things ought to be checked to find the cause. I would really like to play the game using the notorious effects of community's hard work, so please help me.
I have Windows XP SP3 and NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS with up to date drivers installed.
If any specific information is necessary please write, I will try to respond ASAP.

Thank you.

--------------------------------
I've just found out that there is a "run in window" option in features tab,  list type "dev tools". I selected it and the game opened in a window, without the problem mentioned above.  I think I can live with playing the game with thin blue line at the top of the screen, nevertheless I would be much obliged if someone has any idea about this display issue.
Now back to game  :D
Cheers!

Re: Display/resolution/shaking screen problem...
Your fs2_open.log: (possibly the most important thing ever)
  • fs2_open.log is a file generated by debug builds. It contains all sorts of useful information that we need in order to help you. That is why you should follow the instructions below and provide us with that file when asking for help. Creating an fs2_open.log happens like this:
    • Download the recommended build (link is in the first post of this thread) if you haven't already and place the .exe files to your \freespace2\ folder.
    • Switch to windowed mode (open the Launcher, open the Features tab, select Dev Tools from the pulldown menu and tick on "Run in window").
    • Select the debug build (fs2_open_3_6_10_debug.exe) and run it. If you've been experiencing crashes, do exactly what you've done previously, up until it crashes.

If you have had other issues, it is sufficient to run it until you get to the Main Hall. If the debug build crashes fatally even before getting to the Main Hall, no worries.
    • Quit the game.
    • Find fs2_open.log from \freespace2\data\, copy it to a safe location and include it to your post, either as an attachment (click Additional Options when posting) or using the "code" tags.
Couldn't hurt.

Re: Display/resolution/shaking screen problem...
Hmm. Can't see anything particularly wrong in there.

When I run the game using this launcher 55e
The Launcher is actually just a minor tool that you use to select options and stuff. FSO itself is what you're running. And since you said you followed the instructions in the MediaVPs release thread, I'd assume you've been running FSO 3.6.10. You could also try the (at the moment) latest 3.6.11 nightly build to see if it makes any difference.

On a related note, what kind of a monitor do you have? And what resolution have you tried to use?

Re: Display/resolution/shaking screen problem...
Yes, I run FSO 3.6.10, but for now I will not try 3.6.11 as I'm perfectly OK with the window mode  :pimp:
I have LG Flatron F720P monitor, I tried 800x600 and 1024x768. The thing is it doesn't change the size of that scaled down screen at all. It's like I have a monitor inside my monitor, the space between that scaled screen and the edge of the monitor is black. Maybe it has something to do with drivers...it just occurred to me, that when I start my computer the log in screen is also scaled down and only after Windows loads it goes fullscreen. On the other hand other apps are working properly...
Either way thank you for your willingness to help.
