PCS2 - The flaming Error of Doom!
Whenever i load a .pof model ( custom ones as well as models from the mediavps ) in PCS2 ( any version ), and try to edit something i get the following error message:

Great Flaming Error of Doom
Warning OGL reported "invalid value" at .\pcs_file.cpp (2143) - report to Bobboau - or else...

This happens only with models in .pof format, .dae models load fine and i can edit them without any problems.
Yesterday on the IRC channel, Chief1983 and The_E suggested that i re-install my videocard drivers, but that didn't help.
I assume it is something related to my system, any help in tracking down the error would be appreciated.

So, the question is, what except for video driver issues, can cause the Error of Doom?

I had this for a while too....

Try going to Options > Pref > check or uncheck "Use OpenGL VBOs if able."

See what happens then.

Re: PCS2 - The flaming Error of Doom!
IIRC, I had an issue like this a while back also. Maybe try re-downloading the newest stable version, and re-installing it. I gave it a shot, and it started to work for me again. Here's the latest stable version at Sourceforge.

Installed it again, but the error still occurs, everytime. :blah:
Now i can see why it's called The Great Flaming Error of Doom!

I suggest to rename that one to:

The Great Persistant Flaming Error of Doom! :P

You did completely un-install the previous version before the re-installation, right? If you didn't, I'm guessing that it's slightly possible that they could be conflicting in some way. If you can't find it via the control panel/add and remove programs, then just delete the folder. Also make sure to select the right options for the FS2/FS directory/Descent (only if you have it) during the installation when it asks and etc.

Yeah, i completly removed the old ones, and it's set up like previous installs, which worked always fine.

Ok, update your video card drivers if you haven't already. You previously said you re-installed them, but make sure that they are updated to the newest versions possible. Also, do you think you could post the name of the graphics card that your using. To be honest, I think it's an error with OpenGL, since my problem was more than likely related to that also.

Re: PCS2 - The flaming Error of Doom!
The drivers are the latest for the ATI card.
After chief1983 and The_E suggsted it on IRC recently, i de-installed them and installed them fresh ( i downloaded the driver again, just to be sure ).

Maybe i should point out that this error appeared out of nowhere, means, i haven't installed any software or games recently that might be
conflicting with something.
Me thinks that my system is somehow responsible for that, but i have no clue what or why.

And thanks for your help dragonsniper!

Re: PCS2 - The flaming Error of Doom!
Hmm... I'm not exactly sure what could be causing this... Are you by chance trying to use the extra Collada support for it? Because I tried that, and it caused a ton of problems... If not, then I suspect a OpenGL issue. When you go into PCS2, go into the options tab, then Query OpenGL. What does it say that your OpenGL version is? I'll fiddle around with my PCS2 a bit later and see if I can conjure this error if your not using the Collada support thing. And no problem with the help. :)

Re: PCS2 - The flaming Error of Doom!
that's OGL code throwing up. you must have an ancient card or a card with ****ty drivers. unfortunately you build is not current with the copy of the code I have, so I cannot pin point the error.

Re: PCS2 - The flaming Error of Doom!
I get this error once in a while with that VBO checkbox ticked. If I uncheck it...

1) nameplate transparency on some ships works correct
2) viewpoint lags

No newer graphics card drivers available on this (sucks don't it, when playing in windowed mode is an FPS killer). And the error is (to some extent) random, sometimes I get it, sometimes not, sometimes it happens but not again after re-running the program but that usually means "there goes all the changes".

2.0.3 stable :nervous:

Didn't really think too much into it I'll admit, tended to lean more towards the "don't fix what isn't broke" mentality.

That's not necessarily the problem though, is it? I understand how it could be, but I got the same problem  (completely out of the blue) and then after 2 weeks or so, it cleared itself up, without me doing anything at all...

Re: PCS2 - The flaming Error of Doom!
Hm, my card is a ATI 2600HD with the latest drivers.

I think it works now, i loaded the Arcadia model 4 times and the error occured only two times.
I guess that's a improvement.

What i did is, de-install the drivers again and install only the drivers without the ATI command center ( which always was running with default settings anyway ).
I always had the the command center installed, so i wonder why all of a sudden this error occurs.
I blame ATI for it. Seriously. WTF? :wtf:

Anyway, it seems i can edit .pof files again, so thanks to everyone for the help and sorry for any inconvenience!
