Official Altair background?
Hello all,
Just wondering whether there is a "canon" background for the Altair system? If there is one I would like to use it as it would add to believability and save me having to dredge up a background from scratch.

Thanks,
CommanderDJ
[16:57] <CommanderDJ> What prompted the decision to split WiH into acts?
[16:58] <battuta> it was long, we wanted to release something
[16:58] <battuta> it felt good to have a target to hit
[17:00] <RangerKarl> not sure if talking about strike mission, or jerking off
[17:00] <CommanderDJ> WUT
[17:00] <CommanderDJ> hahahahaha
[17:00] <battuta> hahahaha
[17:00] <RangerKarl> same thing really, if you think about it

This is the one used in the FSPort campaign in Altair.

Normal people believe that if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it isn't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.
The difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers is:
Mechanical Engineers build weapons.  Civil Engineers build targets

Thanks for that!

Just out of curiosity, which mission is this used in?

It's used in the black omega mission (sm3-06a).

Eh, an aside, but code tags plz? :P

Again, I'm thinking we should have a thread or a wiki page documenting all the canon FS2 systems with "official" backgrounds...or just add that part to the system page in the wiki!

There used to be a background pack made from the official missions that was essentially composed of mission blanks with the correct backgrounds...but only for FS2.

Your use of the search function is as good as mine. I deleted it and a lot of other stuff I wasn't going to be using anymore some time ago.

You can look through the MediaVPs and FSPort missions for backgrounds set in those systems. (I kinda miss my green suns, though.)

Re: Official Altair background?
Sorry to bring this back up, but I just wanted to check to see if I'm not insane:

Does it make sense, if I have two missions set in vastly different parts of the Altair system, to have the same background for both of them? I think I'm too sleep deprived as I can't reconcile that idea in my mind. Can someone clear this up for me?

As long as there are no planets in the BG. Otherwise you'll have to logically change their positions (after a few million kilometres you can barely see them anyway) :nervous:

There are two planets. I guess I'll just get rid of them, and maybe make the sun smaller or something. Thanks, T-LoW!

Re: Official Altair background?
Yep, missions set in the same system can make do with the same nebulae and sun type, but you would want to move the sun and planets to compensate.

I posted a collection of backgrounds on freespacemods.net

http://www.freespacemods.net/request.php?653

They were done by lightspeed and others (I think these were some that Admiral Nelson was working on).

Edit: I remembered that the collection was put together by Admiral Nelson for use by the FSCRP
