I'm adding in the DVD's etc. that I didn't have before. It's >50GB.

In other news, I'm stress-testing the router.

Never even though about including albums, tapes, etc.  Probably have a few dozen LP's, over 100 45's, couple hundred tapes, and 20 or so 8-tracks.  I ripped all my CD's so counting those would be just doubling stuff.
No-one ever listens to Zathras. Quite mad, they say. It is good that Zathras does not mind. He's even grown to like it. Oh yes. -Zathras

I actually only got into FLAC or other lossless-type files rather recently, after hearing the difference it made when listening to some ambient groups like Aes Dana.  And holy crap what a difference it is.  256kbps?  I might as well be listening to it on youtube.

There's also encoder used and packing quality. For example, iTunes has a really ****ty M4A converter. It's permanently in "fastest" mode. When I do use MP3, it's 256kbps & set to "best" mode, even if that does multiply how long it takes to convert. I had iTunes do it once and started playing music and cringed at the ****ty quality before turning it off, wiping it, and going back to ALAC.

~one terabyte between my dad's collection and my own, which is only ~1000 songs and pitiful in comparison.

I've got a few gigabytes, spread over numerous backup DVDs and music mp3 CDs. Obviously 20 times smaller than most people seem to have... Or 400 times smaller... ^
