3ds crap?  You have MAX and you're TEXTURING in Truespace?  Are you CRAZY?  TS has maybe half the texture options MAX does.

The only reason TS is even remotely useful is because you need to use it.

I think this is another case of people with wierd ways of thinking about modeling... I mean, for US, TS does suck, because it lacks options and has the most assbackwards way of modeling in town. But for others... well, it simulates a paintbrush, sorta, which may mean something...

it has a better user interface and clearer option when it comes to UVmapping; modeling in TS on the other hand is rather, as you so colorfully put it, ass-backward.

in my opinion 3d studio max is da best

Truespace is too......crap to say the least.....

and if ur patient u can download 3dsmax 4 from the net....

3DS Max doesn't use .pcx files. Freespace 2 doesn't use .bmp (at least as far as i know). See a conflict? Truespace uses .pcx files. Yay! Problem solved!:devilidea

Hmm. As far as I can see my TS1 doesn't support PCX files. All my textures are in bitmap format.

No, but IrfanView is a good converter for BMP-PCX, in batches as well as single files (available at hotfiles.com, I believe)

Wouldn't the model still look for the texture in .bmp?

POF texture names do not include the extention. FS2 will look for textures in whatever formats it supports. (Which from looking at the bmpman source seems to be pcx and tga, though I've not tried using tga files.)

That, or track down and DL a .pcx plugin. There are plugins for everything in MAX out there, I have a hard time believing that some of the ones around could exist and a simple port plugin for a somewhat standard file type could not...

So what?  You're going to let a minor filetype problem get in way of using a far superior program?

A good free modeling program I've been using is gmax.  Download the "tempest game pack" after you download gmax and you can save your models as .md3, and then you can use any sort of model converting program such as 3d exploration too convert it to whatever else you want.
