Author Topic: Game Warden exodus?  (Read 1759 times)

I noticed that two of Game Warden's active projects (Syrk and Earth Defense) recently switched their hosting to HLP. I can understand this from a publicity standpoint, but is there anything else behind this? Are more projects coming over our way? And what does this mean for the future of Game Warden? I was really hoping that big projects like Earth Defense would put more life into that site, but now there seems little chance of that. Guess I just hate to see a FreeSpace fan site die. Anyone else's thoughts on this?

There's been some internal discussion on this topic. Nobody can reach MatthewPapa. GameWarden seems to be on its way to the grave.

Maybe.

With Matt gone and no one qualified to take over it is causing problems for some of the hosted projects. The more established ones are generally doing fine though.

I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of HLP members suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly overrun with SoL fans.

Yeah, I've been wondering if SoL will also join the ranks of HLP's hosted projects. Seriously though, how many of GW's mods are still considered "active?" Earth Defense, SoL, FreeSpace Atmospheric, Syrk and SSS were really the only ones I was ever hopeful for.

i also pulled most of my stuff off of gw and put it on fsmods, after several months without ftp. the forum remains, but im not sure if anyone is using it anymore.

ED and Syrk have already relocated here, FSAtmospheric was last seen heading towards SectorGame.

IIRC Freespace Atmospherics is no more, they migrated to SectorGame and joined ranks with another project.
But yeah, GW is mostly dead.... a bump.

It is sad to see another FS fan site, especially one as big as GW was, die. But things could turn around. HLP should host all of GW's stuff untill GW is.. on its feet again.

And every big HLP site should have 'backup' hosts lined up so if one of the top guys goes AFK which happens frequently, the system\site\community dont die. Same thing with campaign projects.. the 'lead' guy goes AFK and no one knows how to finnish.

People should be responsible and say when leaving and prep ppl..

Watching from the sidelines, it looks like there were a lot of telltale signs that GW was a sinking ship for at least a year. I've seen some members on IRC report of spambots taking a power trip through GW once in a while.
