BTW, Goober :

Since you said you want to add beams to it (something I don't see on sentries, to little power core imo, Mjolnir was a stupid idea), I could remove the upper and lower laserturret on the shivan version and add some sort of beam-projector there (though I have currently no idea what looks good, I'm open for suggestions). Since it has a quite fat power core in the center, it could maybe support two AA-Beams
Yes, that is exactly what I'm thinking.  One AAA beam on the top, and one on the bottom.  Then I might make some (or all) of the remaining turrets flak guns. :drevil:

And someone should really add shields to it. They are meant to be shielded (big enough for a huge powercore), I just problems modelling good ones. Not sure if today are better shields possible than just the stupid bubbleshield
What's wrong with the bubble shield?

I don't like the idea of the bubble shield too much, but maybe that only a matter of taste. IMO if I create a simple bubble, it will shield too much empty space, I never liked that somehow. Here, that's what I mean :

Black is the gun, blue the shield, red the "unnecessary" parts. Due to the crosslike shape of the guns, those spaces would be quite hugh (also in height). But as I said, it's a matter of taste. The bubble shield has certainly one advantage, it could be done in a matter of minutes :)

I'm not a modeller, so when I have needed a shield mesh, I've always imported a bubble shield from some other model, then scaled it to fit. :D

  • The sky is the limit.
Also, a bubble shield enables an interesting tactic, namely flying under it into unused areas.
Of course, if you don't want that, you'd have to use a shield that can fit more tightly.

Well, it's up to you guys when you upgrade the model :) If you can, I would suggest that you create a shieldmesh that follows the shape of the model.  But dragon has a point, flying below the shield sucks. That's sort of an error. Why should the shield block a kinetic missile, while it let's fighter go through :)

@ G5K, if you want to make all other weapons Flaks, that will be a real overkill. I also tried that in the past   :D

Anyone into upgrading the erebos with some sort of beam weapon probs ? I'm currently a little busy with MC OT :)

The best example of suffering from the bubble shields would be the sekhmet imgo. Awesome bomber, but it just has a damn huge profile. In the end you need to hit the hull anyway, but the huge shield is a setback when more than one enemies fire at you. While the one only needs to hit the shield from the distance and drain it, the closer one gets to the hull much easily. If the shield fits, both have to target precisely.

If you don't let the fighter through, you can't let through the support ship eaither. my guess is that the on-board computer shuts the quadrant down when something big approaches it.

I guess repelling a fighter would drain the shield empty imiediately. The shield is built for short discharges. Maybe that's why it can't block beams?
