If you can make some severely crappy models and go through the entire process of importing/getting model to show up in game, with everything working on it (guns, lights, etc) it would be great so users can see step by step process of how to get a model into the game.

You can use boxes for the ship/etc, it doesn't have to be fancy. The point is to have a reference video.
You can get free camstudio to record your desktop then you can post the whole thing to youtube.

http://camstudio.org/

If you are unable to do this I will do this if I am told exactly what to do... since these recording a desktop video of all the steps will make it infinitely easier for future moddellers to know what to do.

Just the rigging/convert, or from scratch?

I was thinking from the beginning. You can do both if you want to, the idea is to get absolute beginners up to speed so everything should be recorded from the get go - i.e. go into your modelling software, create some campy ship, fix it up, rig it, etc...

There are often hidden problems/gotcha's that new users get stuck on and a video would help overcome, so that anyone just starting in game modding can look to it.

So a modern tutorial, perhaps using blender (but not including rendering techniques or UV mapping) and ending with adding dock and gunpoints, shields, etc?
Currently playing: real life.

A full video for everything is unrealistic, as the workflow is composed of a number of different tasks, for which there are already many good tutorials for. I would imaging there being video tutorials for these as well. Just look up videos for modelling, UVmapping, and texturing seperately. A model is a model, doesn't matter what its made for, really. Same with a UVmap. Or a texture...

The only part that really specific is the export/pof data, most of which can be done in PCS2 anyway without any knowledge of a modelling application whatsoever!

I'll go over that, if you want, but there's no point in doing the rest, since everyone has different modelling apps and graphics apps, and you're better off looking for tutorials on those on your own.

Yup basically, so that users can look at the process and see the steps directly.

You can do what you feel where someone new will have most problems and cover that, like I said it's up to the individual modeller.  I leave it at that.  I'm hoping we can get some vids from everyone and then get a thread /w links to videos. :)
