Is it possibel to alter things so two beam cannons reside in the same turret. Hence if fired at the same time with one fractionaly larger or off centre you could get a beam with a glowing edge a different colour? Or get the beam to play between the two colours fading from green to yellow and back?

How hard is it to add new HUD data boxes, and set up new key maps to functions displayed there?

Umm... Very easy, just make a section af the beam slightly larger than the other, and give it a different color, and a zadd-value of 1. Then make the other section, make it smaller, and a give it a different color, and a zadd-value of 2.

Tada! Glowing edges! Though that fading may not be possible without code changes, and that's not my area :D

With some flickering and paitence you should be able to get it to fade between colors.

A single turret can have up to 3 different primaryish weapons at one time. Whether it'll use all of them without using fire-beam or something I don't know. (I should try it out.)

It won't use them.

Yeah, it fires only one.

I wonder if you can make multi-barreld turrets fire two weapons simuntaniusly?

It's more whether they're multi-weapon then multi-barreled. (The latter sounds like multi-part turrets and can be confusing.)

My bet would be no, it is not possible to make one turret fire two weapons simultaneously.  It may be possible, however, to achieve your desired results simply by altering the beam.
