I'm having trouble with voice files in FRED2
Hi all, been peeking around here for a while and I've tried to make a few of my own single missions in FRED2. I have met with good success, except for the fact that neither FRED2 not Freespace itself will play my recorded .wav files. The briefing and message editors will both load them in the sounds list, however, when I click on the "Play" arrow, nothing happens. The same goes for in game, as though it thinks the sound files are empty. The built in .wav files (Wingmate comms) work fine and I can use them freely.
The files I attempted to load in the briefing editor are in both freespace2/data/voice/briefing and its respective location in the mediaVPs folder. The chatter files are similarly in /data/voice/special. They work absolutely fine when loaded in Media player. The files are .wav, PCM 44.100 kHz, 16 bit, Mono. Do I need to use a more specific type of .wav, or is it something else entirely?
These files were obtained from both the Sound Recorder and converted from on line MP3 files I created.

I wouldn't have usually created a new topic for something like this, but after half an hour of searching, none of the normal solutions have fixed this problem.

Have you tried converting the files to ogg vorbis for use with FSO? We don't need to use that teriible, horrible wav format anymore.

Unfortunately, that did not work either, and I tried various different qualities of .ogg. it is starting to sound as though it is a bug in my software, as I've never heard of these conditions for this problem, so ill try updating and/or reinstalling FRED2.

Re: I'm having trouble with voice files in FRED2
Quick update, I reinstalled FRED2, and now im getting the audio, although it is VERY choppy, unacceptably so. Anyway, .ogg works, and .wav doesn't, so I shall nevermore corrupt our lovely FRED with that terrible, horrible .wav format.  :D
Working on seeing if different qualities solve my problem. If they do, is it more appropriate to delete this topic or leave it up? theres not much that could be useful to others so i was planning on deleting it.

This board exists in part mainly so people can ask questions about FRED such as this. It might help others if you keep this topic open, in fact, you ought to.

Sounds good.
Also, is that green beam directed AT me? If so, "Dive Dive Dive hit your burners pilot!"

Anyway, thanks for the help.
