Killing subsystems without explosions
What the title says.  Is there a way to do this?  I am envisioning a solid shield object, but the problem is that when the shield is finally destroyed, it will go out with a massive firework-esque bang unbecoming of such a system.  Hence, why I want it to go quietly.
