Having been a long-time devotee of all things Freespace 2, it goes without saying that I never played the game without my trusty MS FF2 joystick. To say it was a disappointment that the joystick encountered issues with my Windows 7 64-bit OS is putting it mildly, but it could be worse, it could work not at all, right?
As such, I AM able to use my favorite joystick. I figured out one fix for Freespace where my return-to-center tension was non-existent by switching compatibility mode to WinXP for all the .exe files. In fact, the tension might be a little TOO strong. Now I have the irritating problem of a delayed/overcorrect response by the joystick when I bank. In other words, when I start to bank, it doesn't go right away, then the craft catches up to my input and goes waaayyyyy too fast and too far. This obviously makes the gameplay a bit difficult. If I had to guess, the input for my FF2 is linear and not curved, like it should be.
So, I'm asking if there's a way to edit the force settings for Freespace and possibly assign a curve profile of some kind? This didn't used to be necessary as the WinXP software did a wonderful job of it, but now with just vanilla Win7 driver software, it leaves a lot to be desired. I've tried everything I could to install the software to no avail.
For the record, I was able to find online a neat Force Editor program that I believe was originally designed and used for IL-2 Sturmovik modders to tweak their force settings. Thing is, there were .ffe files within IL-2 that could be tweaked to their desire (as well as exhaustive settings in the game itself, really, it's impressive). Are there .ffe files for Freespace that I can tweak?
Thanks in advance!
