If you follow GenDisc and has a good memory, you may remember that I have had some computer trouble since December. Long story short, I am on a temporary computer now which is good enough for basic computer activities (Internet, Office etc.) but it isn't quite good for much else, i. e. running FreeSpace Open with MediaVPs. I'm perfectly sure my old motherboard was causing trouble, so the first (and hopefully only) thing to acquire would be a new motherboard. The Asrock P4i65G is my best candidate if I want to keep as many hardware as I can. I don't want to buy a wholly new computer, primarily for economic reasons.

Also it would be best if I could keep my chassis, which leads to my question. How can I make sure my current chassis will be compatible with this motherboard? Which parameter determines it?

Assuming that that's the exact same case, the sample mainboard on the page you linked to is ATX (http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?InvtId=P4P800-VMS-WB&cpc=SUGG).  Any ATX mainboard should fit.

is the important line in this, the majority of household computers operate ATX or micro ATX the difference is that the board is physically smaller but the screw holes still line up with the ATX standard

Googling the old pc you linked the new board is slightly smaller but as both Micro ATX the screw holes will line up the same and the new board should come with the back plate adaptor to fit it to a standard (micro)ATX case which yours should be.

that mobo isnt even a full microatx, i have one thats similar, it should fit in anything asuming its not some really tiny form factor like mini itx.

Board and Case are both ATX, after that count the slots: Board has 5, case has 7. It'll fit. Here's the screw layout:
