Uploading video to youtube takes hours??
I have a problem with Youtube's uploading system.

So here's it; I record an online game with Fraps, which turns out to be extremely large (entire Gigabytes for a 5-minute video), so I compress it via VirtualDub. The process itself is already rather time consuming, taking about 20-30 minutes for a video. So I delete the enormous uncompressed video and replace it with the compressed one. It is in my knowledge that .wmv is the most reliably compatible format to upload, so I use Youtube downloader to quickly convert the .avi to .wmv. Unfortunately it downgrades the quality (Resolution change?) so I quit it and download another video converter.

Thankfully, the quality change doesn't occur anymore. BUT to my frustration, the uploading process apparently takes forever; the progress bar rapidly fills up at first, but stops at a certain percentage. Then it seems to have frozen; after checking for probably more than an hour it still stays!

I try and use Youtube downloader instead to convert it to .wmv since I remember it working that way before. And it DID! But I noticed the pathetic quality and decided to quit it. I have tried to look for numerous sites on how to solve but either they don't solve my problem or are too complicated to understand.

So I try and with doubt in my mind, just upload the .avi and let it do the job even if I know it may take forever. But after checking for SEVERAL hours, it DID work! It's done!  :D

Unfortunately, I try another video just in case the stopping will not happen again. But it DID, to my great annoyance, and I decided to quit it again.

Is there ANY WAY at all to stop this irritating phenomenon from lengthening the already time-consuming process of compressing, converting, and uploading Fraps recorded videos?? I am asking this forum since I believe there are quite a lot of techies here.

I await your response and thank you in advance for your valuable advice.

(The video is between 150-200 MB).

Well there is your problem. Your upload is extremely slow, it's got nothing to do with youtube.

Also, why in God's name would you be attempting to convert an already-encoded video to .wmv? :p

Re: Uploading video to youtube takes hours??
Marcov,

1) Do you have cell reception in your area?

2) How good (4G, 3G, how many bars)

3) What kind of phone do you have

4) Is your data plan unlimited

5) What is your carrier

6) Depending on your answers above, Profit!! -- PDANet lets your computer use your data connection of your phone whilst not being detected as such by your provider - it looks like your phone using the data (if you have an iPhone, you most has jailbreak it, I can help with that).

Just be sure that you don't go over your data limit, or be sure that you aren't penalized monetarily if you do.  Sprint is unlimited, I know that much.

PS If you do end up using PDANet, USB tethering mode is faster than Wi-Fi hotspot mode.  Also, if you device is fully charged and plugged in to do USB tether mode, the battery isn't discharging or charging and that saves it getting all hot and shortening battery life.
