FS: Silent Threat Installation Problems
I obtained Freespace: Silent Threat several years ago and I installed it on my now old Windows XP computer. I have recently gained interest in playing it again, but I can't install it now!
Some time between when I stopped playing it and now I tried to uninstall it (I assume I was bored of it) but I guess the installation didn't work right and some of the files were not removed. Here is what I have tried so far:
-First I tried just sticking in the disk to try to install it. The disk would start up but it jump straight to the setup part of the installation. After a few minutes the Freespace logo and the progress bar would disappear, my computer would make an error noise of doom, and I would receive a message saying that FreeSpace could not be found in the registry and the intallation was aborting.
-Then, I tried searching through my computer for the game files and, sure enough, I found the folder with a few lingering files in it. I promptly deleted the folder and tried installing again. I ran into exactly the same problem as before.
-Finally out of desperation, I opened the registry and deleted every key in the had anything to do with Freespace (don't worry, I made a restore point before I made any changes to the registry). Now, when I put the CD in, the drive makes a lot of noise, but nothing else happens. At all.

I am at a total loss of what else to do. I have seriously tried everything I can think to do.  I really want to play this game, and I don't really want to try to figure out FS Open. I would be extremely grateful for any help I can get :)

Admittedly, an installation of FSO and downloading of the FSPort and Silent Threat: Reborn would probably be less hassle than troubleshooting a game meant for Windows 9x, even on XP, but at any rate...

Also, as far as I know, you need to have a working install of Freespace before you can install Silent Threat, as IIRC Silent Threat was not a stand-alone expansion. It makes sense it would refuse to install Silent Threat if the installer can't find an install of Freespace on the system, so, you'll need to make sure you have that base covered first.

Unless of course I'm wrong, in which case I'm sure I'll be corrected fairly quickly.  :p

Play Silent Threat Reborn, it's better!

Now that you mention that, I'm pretty sure I remember that Silent Threat was a separate thing. This makes so much more sense now! Thank you so much! I'm going to try to find that other disk!
