I find that if my brother's Diablo II CD is in the drive before I go to play FreeSpace it doesn't ask....if anything else is in....it asks...

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I have a question.

Did anyone ever disable CD-checking for singleplayer? You see, I have a problem - basically, my CD drive is shot to hell - it locks FS2 when it winds down from full speed, and this is happening practically every time I enter the game. Of course, this makes playing it impossible, and so I can't test BWO. :(

I know we're all anti-warez here, so I'm going to ask the sourcecoders first. However, we all know that we all have the FS2 discs anyway (like I could design a campiagn without them :) ) so if that fails, I may have to ask for the evil cd-crack of doom! I'd rather not, but if that's what it takes...

Help me, HLPBB-Wan, you're my only hope! :D

You might want to look into one of those CD scratch repair systems. (One i know of is called Game Doctor and goes for about $25-30.)

I can pick up both Freespace games for £10-15. I'll do that instead. However, my fear is that it's not scratches but something else causing it, given that it's only happening on one computer (last I checked) and with all discs (although I will check again).

If the same kind of problems happen using other programs that access a lot of data from CDs then it sounds like your drive is going. (And if your drive does die you'll probably want to replace it anyways.)
