What irks me is not the fact that these things go viral and so on. General excitment over obvious myths is expected. What is mind-boggling is to see CNN "report" this viral video without giving any hint as to why it is ludicrous.

Because research and fact checking are traits that are not selected for in journalists these days.

I stopped taking it seriously as soon as she cited the source as being a YouTube user.

Slow news day?
Who uses forum signatures anymore?

This video was uploaded on October 29th, 2010. So seeing this on CNN is not as horrifying as if it happened today.

Still, to see a CNN reporter seriously pose the question "does this video prove that time travel exists?" is pretty disheartening, no matter when it was asked.

This has to be fact, CNN could never be wrong!  /sarcasmrant

The media doesn't tend to think or research anything these days. The internet is a blessing and a curse. Or the human race is a curse, dunno which.

I thought this video was a lot easier to swallow without doing any of my own research. Yet... Chaplin's Time Traveler Analyzed

When you see a news network get their news off youtube, it's such a sure sign of quality.. Jon Stewart was right on the money; CNN is terrible.

CNN reported Iraqi forces were impaling Kuwaiti babies on pikes during the Gulf War.  Babies.  On Pikes.  Where do you even get a pike these days other than a museum?

They eventually retracted it, but it should come as no surprise to anyone that all media sources are periodically very wrong.
