Stuttering sound w/o EFX?
I'm not sure if this is an FSO or BP issue, but I noticed that once I disable EFX (I really don't like the room-like reverb on everything I hear in the game), the whole game begins to stutter every 5-10 seconds. It stops for about .3-.4 of a second. Extremely annoying, and a bit counter-intuitive, given that disabling a feature would cause this.

Again, I'm not sure if this BP specific or a general FSO issue on my system. Any ideas what could cause this?

Lmk if you need a log.

thanks!

Update - nvm my earlier update, this seems to effect all BP campaigns. Checking through BP1 and BP2 mods to see if the problem is there.
Update2 - this might be a bp2 mod issue. Tried the same scenes with the BP1 mod in AoA, and I experienced no stutters.

I know everyone hates self-responses, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas...

Are you using Creative's OpenAL or OpenAL Soft?

Creative I believe. Should I use ALchemy? Since I have X-Fi Elite Pro.

Re: Stuttering sound w/o EFX?
So I think this stuttering has something to do with sample rate. For some reason, I have two devices showing up on top of the generic openAL soft devices. And I only have one sound card - on board is disabled in the BIOS. I attached a screenshot.

The one which is highlighted is the one that shouldn't even be there. But with that one, I don't hear any stuttering. On the flip side of it, all sounds seems to be coming through in worse quality (minus the music), like it was sampled only at 22kHz. The one which is not highlighted appears to sample the sounds correctly, but it stutters every now and then.

I'm confused. Any ideas?

Yes - the stuttering became worse.
