Why wont my Xbox play certain DVDs?
I am having a weird problem with my Xbox 360, for some reason it wont play certain DVDs but will play others perfectly ok.

Big Bang theory series 2 and 5,
Sherlock series 2
Doctor Who series 7 part 1
Carry On Matron, Dick, Dont lose your head, Doctor,
Ice Age 2,
Dark Knight Rises
Blackadder series 3
Father Ted series 1
Tom and Jerry
Star Trek

All those DVDs will not play, it reads them as DVDs and when i hit play the screen just goes black and you can here it trying to read them. The discs are all clean, no scratches on them at all. It all started after the last dashboard update. Has anyone else had this problem and know how to get round it?

Have you ever played them? If not, maybe it's their region code.

Re: Why wont my Xbox play certain DVDs?
My Xbox is region 2 and all the DVDs are region 2, and they all work on my normal DVD player downstairs

1) Have those discs ever worked on the xbox?
2) How much you have used the drive? It could very well be that the laser is simply worn out and is unable to read some discs, meaning the problem will only get worse over time or one day refuse to read anything.

Or you could hold on to it and wait for the next-gen Xbox or PS. They should be coming 4th quarter this year.

See i am an Xbox person, but with the news that you will need a permant internet connection, which i struggle to get living in the country side of Scotland , games will require serial codes which will be the death of the pre-owned market. Its kind of put me off getting one i may go over to PS.

That news is a rumor at best. Thus decision which to get should be reserved until they are shipping, at which point we should know facts about both. But regardless, it would be advisable to wait for those instead of getting replacement Xbox 360. You may want to look into replacing the DVD drive only though.

Re: Why wont my Xbox play certain DVDs?
I think it is the definitly the drive on its way out, Just tried to have a game of Zombies on Black Ops 2, wont run, Black Ops 1 and all modern Warfares wont run, Weirdly enough all the Call of Duty games show up as DVDs! At least Fall of Cybertron, Skyrim and Deadspace still work. It seems like my Xbox is being very selective in what it wants to run and not to run.

As for replacing the drive GAME, have always told me that you cant do that and the only option was to get a new console.

Well, according to Internet, that's not entirely true: http://hardandsoftgaming.wordpress.com/2011/03/12/replacing-a-faulty-xbox-360-dvd-drive-firmware-flash-or-circuit-board-transplant/

It's not exactly easy, since you'll need to transfer the circuit board from your old drive to the new one, or the firmware wholesale to the new one. It will apparently take some effort and a bit of skill, but it's possible.
