CNV-301 Dreadnaught WIP
After playing Diaspora I started thinking it might now be possible to attempt an I-War mod. Here's my WIP of the corvette. I think I'm going to have to redo the command section to fix all the problems that showed themselves when I uploaded to p3d. After that, a few tweaks here and there, and a few remaining details, I should be able to start to map.

The problem is, it was hard enough to find decent references for the corvette, the other ships are proving to be impossible to find pictures of. Aside from a couple of random wallpapers, that don't help very much and the pictures in the manual, I can't find any reference. I'm hoping one of you out there have a bunch of pictures in your reference libraries of all the other I-War ships.

Right now I'm just having fun modeling the ships but if a mod starts developing from that who knows.

Ooh, interesting design,
The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell.

Nice ship! I like the way you made the greebles, clean but not banal. Good job!

Nice :)

Have you had a look at the I-War/I-War2 cutscenes on youtube?  They're about the only references that I know of (except the game itself).

Yeah, I've poured over those quite a bit. It's a shame they are so low res. One of the devs occasionally posts over at the GOG I-War forum and he says that someone deleted the originals to free up some hd space. Unbelievable.

Right now probably my only hope is maybe he knows of a batch of reference shots the internet doesn't know about. Baring that I guess I'll have to make do with the ingame ships. That would be a whole lot easier if I had something to view the .smg with. I guess they are some kind of proprietary Lightwave file that I don't even think Lightwave can open.

this is filled with win: I always wondered what a stronger enphasis on fighters might achieve in this universe...

Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I would like to subscribe to your magazine.

Seriously though - this is an awesome project. I used to be fairly big in the I-War community and I'm scrambling right now to try and find any old media I can to help out.

There is one thing I did find...

This is from a long-lost folder parked around the depths of my hard drive. The accompanying readme file says as follows:

Quote
Created by Second Chance

These are the models dreadnaught_high.lwo and dreadnaught_low.lwo, originally created by Craig A Clarke, converted from Lightwave to .3ds format with his permission. The conversion process leaves no texture coordinates on the models, so these models are untextured. I've included his original documentation in the zip for copyright and historical value. Enjoy!

I've uploaded said 3ds files and "original documentation" (MHT file) here: http://illuminatihq.net/Dreadnaught-3ds-model.rar - Maybe you'll get some use out of this. The MHT file has a few additional profile photos in it - still low res, but possibly usable. From cross-checking a couple of things as well I don't think this is 100% official, but rather the results of a third-party recreation effort from way back.

I'll check back in if I find anything more. I could've sworn I had a high-def CNV-301 schematic kicking around somewhere, and right now I'm utterly ashamed as a nerd that I can't find it.

Edit - God, I'm sorry - I just realized you're primarily looking for reference materials for other ships as well. I'll let you know if I happen to find anything regardless.

Gorgeous work!
I Loved I-War. Would love to see a pimped out version of it! Just don't know if FSO would be the best choice for it (no open world, no newtonian physics, etc)

Oh and any plans to do the NSO-2002 Devastator Class Heavy Corvette?

Yeah, I know you were waiting for a very nice sig, in which I was quoting some very famous scientist or philosopher... guess what?!? I wont indulge you...

Why, you ask? What, do I look like a Shivan to you?!?

(snip)

Thanks that's really helpful. Particularly in regards to the missile pod. The picture I was working from was a fan made ship and the missile pod was different and I couldn't get a clear picture of how the pods actually look. So thank you. If it turns out you have more that would be awesome.

Sure, if I can find some pictures of it. Like I said I'm just modeling for fun and interest right now so a mod isn't really the focus. I would like to try and make it work though.

Any detachable command ship planned?

Re: CNV-301 Dreadnaught WIP
Yep, that's the plan. The crew modules too.

Cool.. I personnally loved the tariq class patcom. I don't know why... It just felt perfect. In a way moreso than the dreadnaught.
