I am using the hardlight tables wiki to figure out how freespace works. In the wiki there are colored boxes that represent a feature of a particular version, for example a blue box will say freespace 3.6.10 I believe. If I am using a later version of FSO than 3.6.10, will it include the table features from those boxes? Thanks.

In 99% of cases, the version numbers on the wiki are the minimum required FSO version, so anything you see listed as 3.6.10 should work fine in .12, .17, 7.0, 93.89201 etc etc.

Sometimes there might be another box underneath is that sort of super-cedes or replaces an older version of the feature.

Sweet, thanks for the response bro. I was playing around with some of the table features that looked interesting and they didn't work. Then I realized I wasn't using vanilla fso; I was using the BP 3.6.17 build. Would this get in the way of some of those table features working properly?

That's kind of odd. Are you loading them correctly into the game? What features were they? Could you post a sample of what didn't work?

There shouldn't be much that was in retail and isn't anymore...

The most recent one I tried to add was,

$Arm time:

FS2 Open 3.6.10: Defines the time after the launch that is required before the weapon comes hot
If the time has not been reached when the weapon detonates the Dinky explosion is used
 Syntax: Float, seconds

The error message says Error: required token = [#end] or [$name], found [$Arm time: 1.0]

I assume this means it doesn't like the taste of "$arm time:" I have experiemented with the weapon's table and had succeess in everything except the blue boxes. I am a new at this freespace table stuff, however; I am sure there is something I am doing incorrectly.

Other ones that gave the exact same message include: "+Seeker Strength:" and "+Range: and +Attenuation:" under $Beaminfo.

Could you (by way of pastebin) show us the full weapons entry? (but not the entire table!)

The only thing that comes to mind right now is that Arm Time might not be in the correct order with the rest of the fields. The game goes through a list of all these optional fields, and if it finds something like Field 5 after Field 59, it has a little fit.

Thanks, that was the problem. I read the post and then just re-ordered the entries. Is this the proper forum to be searching in for questions about the tables? The next thing me and my bro are trying to experiement with is the +weapon range for the AI.

Yep, anything about modding FreeSpace in any way is kosher here! From showing off models to getting help with tables, its all good here.
