Some time ago, Opera changed from their own engine to WebKit.

Unfortunately with this change the browser was stripped of many features that made it unique and the Opera team either doesn't seem to be in a hurry to implement those features (there have already been 3 major stable versions released, and 2 additional development versions, none of which made much impression) or have stated that some of those features would never return.

Since there doesn't seem to be a product that handles as many use cases as Opera (the closest I've seen is SeaMonkey and Maxthon), and since I remember that there were some Opera users in this forum I was wondering if you plan to stay with Opera or if you've changed or are planning to change, what browser and other programs are you considering to replace the lost functionality.

They are planning to re-implement most of the features in Opera 15. You may have noticed that there is no yet auto-update from 15 to newer versions, not until this new Opera has reached closer to feature parity with 15. Opera is still working on the groundwork and basic features, but it's getting there slowly.

I was never a fan of Opera really, so I don't really know what features you're specifically after. But I'd imagine you'll be able to replicate most of them by using addons, either in new Opera, Chrome or Firefox. Or just stay with Opera 15 if it worked for you up till now, afaik it should still receive security updates.

The current release is Opera 17, which seems functionally equal to 15.

As for features:
The mail client was split into another product (Opera Mail).
The RSS reader was axed entirely.
The tabs don't have the same functionality that they had in Opera 12.16 (tab stacking, preview, etc.)
There are no bookmarks, seriously, there are no bookmarks. They expect you to use the speed dial as a bookmark substitute.
There is no synchronization.
There is no customizability.

I'm still using 12 (Well, 11.64 on my Linux box as 12 can't handle large saved sessions without crashing and doesn't play nice with VNC).

No plans to change, but then I've never been one for upgrading for no good reason (Then again I still use Office 2000 and Windows 2000 )

I don't even think I can recommend Firefox anymore, because Mozilla's philosophy with that seems to have become, "Let's make it look and function exactly like Chrome, because lolnofeatures!"  What I always loved about Firefox is that it was so customizable and tweakable, but now you have to use a bunch of extensions to take care of things that used to be native features, and some of their future goals have driven away a few long-term extension makers.  I know there's something supposedly in the pipe about eliminating the possibility of tabs-on-bottom display for all time, and when that goes, so do I.

In cascading style sheets, '-moz-user-select:none;' should not be an option.

I'm also running Opera 12 and I'm not going to update it. Tab stacking is absolutely vital for me, because I've got a lot of stuff open and need to organize it somewhat.
