It is still not here yet I think, not that I bother to check. I doubt I want to buy any of the next gen consoles for now. Few games, and the rather common DOA issue, and too similar to PC. I instead bought a 780 for my PC.

Biggest issue I have with the 'next gen' consoles this year is that they are at least "previous gen" compared to what I have on my desk now.

Anything they can do, I can do better already with my year+ old desktop machine.

*cue the PC master race, dirty console peasants images* ;)

POSIX is fine, as is Rev or RP

With me, consoles are always about exclusives, which is why I've historically been most enthused about Nintendo's offerings: when you're dangling Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Smash Bros., et al. in front of me, it's going to get my attention.  I do think I'd like to pick up a PS3 at some point, since there are a few exclusive franchises I can think of that I'd like to try out.  I can't come up with any 360-only titles that I feel I'm missing out on.

Yup, pretty much the same for me. Which is why I think that right now is the best time to own a PS3 or 360; there's a huge catalog of games that are known to be good, and you don't have to pay 60 or 70€ to own them.
With the new generation, good new games will be few and far between for the next few months, as publishers get their first titles for these new systems out of the way and start to shift development ressources from the old gen to the new one.

(Meanwhile, I can gather up a decent Library for an eventual purchase of a PS4 through PS+, which is nice.)

Just my personal thinking, for more unique experience, PC gamers are better off with 3DS than anything else. The consoles are rather too similar to a weak unupgradable PC. Either way, neither PS4 and X One arrived here yet so nobody can buy one here for now, save for maybe those import gamers. Not sure if the online service already allowing online game purchase in my country since until they arrive, nobody will sell the games on the store.

Selling point for me is local-multiplayer.  Diablo 3 was godawful on PC, but fun (think Golden Axe) with some buddies and beers on PS3.  Something simple some friends can participate in without having to setup a LAN party.  I'd rather not have them ****ing around on my PC anyways.

Some game can still be played that way. I still remember the old time when I can play some old 2 players boxing and soccer game in a single PC, back then I didn't know LAN existed, or at least it wasn't common and only hi tech offices do that. You can still play games like Streets of Rage remake 2 players on a single PC though.

Does the PS4 have the option of installing Linux on it, like the PS3 used to, before Sony went crazy?
If not, I'll pass.

Of course it doesn't.

Why would you want to, anyway?

I dunno, putting SteamOS on Playstation hardware sounds kind of amusing.

From what I heard, to keep the price low while trying to match PC graphics, Sony had to cut corners a bit. One of them is cancelling the external hard drive support. Maybe they may return it or give it through some extra hardware. Not sure if they went crazy again and brick some third party attempts though.

You can easily swap out the internal HDD on a PS4 without voiding your warranty, though.
