I live in Canada.  Even had the Nazis managed to cross the Atlantic and invade, they'd be living it up in sunny Florida, not freezing their asses off 8 months out of the year up here

Yeah this one was blown out of proportion. The comment was clearly in jest. However, I will say there is a difference in Americans celebrating kicking the British out from the celebration of burning down THE monumental building that symbolizes our nation. Many nations celebrate their independance. Not many celebrate attacking Parliament or somesuch. I think that's why people got bent out of shape.

I still think the most amusing thing to come out of the War of 1812 was the Battle of New Orleans, which was a resounding US victory...after the war had been declared over via treaty.  Speed of communication was a fun thing back then.
