Turns out chocolate teapots ARE useful....
For 2 minutes anyway...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-29126161

There's something strangely British about the concept of trying to make a chocolate teapot that works...

You're just all over the place with these news tidbits aren't you :P

Although this is still pretty amusing. All that effort just to make an old saying wrong!

Hehe, I just post tidbits that people might find interesting or amusing :)

Being controversial or rage inducing is not a required criteria from my perspective, so I see something and think 'The peeps at HLP would find this funny/fascinating' and forward it on.

Besides, if I see one more thread about sexism on top of the 4 we've had in the last few weeks, I'm going to scream.

This is the sort of thread General Discussion needs more of. :)

I'm not familiar with this "as useful as a chocolate teapot" aphorism.  Is it a British saying?

Yup, when something is obviously going to serve no purpose whatsoever. Often used when referring to Politicians :)

Re: Turns out chocolate teapots ARE useful....
'Useful' is still a bit of a stretch, really.
The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell.

That's kind of the point.

Can't go wrong with chocolate and tea for that matter.

Re: Turns out chocolate teapots ARE useful....
Well, I think it'd actually be really useful. You can sell it complete with a tea bag, a paper cup, a small bottle of water and a chemical warming mat. Tea and chocolate MRE! :) It'd likely be a hit among British and Americans alike.

You only get a boom with Typhoo?

You may have to be British to understand that one...

My mother has used the phrase "as useful as a chocolate teapot" many times during my life, so this topic was right up my alley. I smiled wide when I saw it.

Oh I agree. :)

My (American) grandma used to say "useful as a back pocket on a t-shirt".  :)
Maybe someday God will give you a little pink toaster of your own.

"As much use as a chocolate fireguard" is another saying. No idea if we Brits have got dibs on it or not, but that's another one that's been thrown out a few times in my family. :)

"Fly like a lead balloon", once the Mythbusters busted it.
In my world of sleepers, everything will be erased.
I'll be your religion, your only endless ideal.
Slowly we crawl in the dark.
Swallowed by the seductive night.
