My Freespace 2 is not working!!
Here is what I get. When I go to the main menu I press PLAY and some seconds later I get a totally black screen with a tiny white dot in the upper left corner and that is all. It just blocks and does nothing and doesn't react to any keys or commands. Please in the name of Freespace HELP ME OUT! SOMENOE! PLEASE!

Have you tried re-installing FS2??

It could also be to do with your video card not being able to handle playing FS2. Maybe a re-format of your whole computer might do the trick. Im not really sure, because I dont know much about computers. Im sure one of the other people around here would know a hell of more than me....sorry.

a list of stuff that you have in yar PC (vid card sound ETC) would probobly help a little

Is the problem limited to fs2? Try running other games and then report back!

OK Here are all the components I have:

AMD K63 3D NOW 450 Mhz
128 MB RAM
Ge-Force 256 32MB DDR
Sound Blaster Live Player 1024
TEAC 540E CD ROM
SEAGATE 8 GB HDD
Detonator drivers dated: November 29th  2001
Clean Freespace 2 directory with no mods at all
Windows 98 Second Edition.

Problem is limited to Freespace 2. I also have Jedi Outcast installed but it works fine.

Perhaps i should format the HDD and install Windows ME. I planned that for this upcomming week. Do you think it's wise to do that?

Right, anyway. What have you done between when it did work, and when it stopped working? Drivers, hardware, software, anything. Check it all. Doesn't 98SE have a roll-back feature? I really think this is just a case of going back over your own tracks.

Here is what I did.
I formated my HDD before I installed FS2 and then I encountered the problem. But since it doesn't work anyway, I guess i will have to come up with something else.

I just tho of sumthing else actually! Wot motherboard are u using? If its a VIA make sure the bus mastering drivers are updated. Early bus-mastering cards (matrox G400, old Gforce 256s, some TNTs) can be buggy without the updates.

Of course!! It works now! I am so happy!
What I did? I just installed the march 2002 Detonator drivers and it works like a charm now. Thanks for your help and idea guys. What would I do without you?

uhhh no, you don't have to reinstall, just clean out the folders!

I knew that Stealth but I fixed the problem. It was the driver uncompitablility! But thanks anyway for the tip.
