Media Codecs for Media Player?
Does anyone know where I can find codecs for video files for use with Windows Media Player 7.1? Most things run but there are several files that put out no sound and the only visual is a large colorful/pixilated block. In short it won't play the movie - scanning to any part of the file won't change matters either.

Anyones thoughts?

Well the DivX player worked (funny, it didn't the last time I tried). I'm still not sure why Media Player won't work with it. Bloomin' Microsoft. Ah well - thanks for the help all.

How come some things work in Dvix and not media player and vice versa? There are Avi's that you can only open with media player and things niether open but Real player does... I am trying to find a good cross file typeplayer or at least all the codecs for the ones I have so they can play the files they are supposed to!
(Yes the parent sites offer nothing new I always update)..
Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide target selection !

I could link to one, but the player is also an intergrated encoder used for making DivX movie copies so I'd best not.

Bugger that, I'm against comercial game copying publicly on this forum, not movie copying... If it can play everything I chuck at it and it's legal then I'd love the link to it. PM me if you don't want to post it up here.

Go here and get Nimo Codec pack v5.0 Build 8.

Nimo Codec pack contains almost all codecs that are in use nowadays.

Make sure you read what to install and what not, in this case it's from two to four codecs you probably don't want to install.

WARNING !!!
There is an INCOMPATIBILITY with the "TFM Audio Filter v1.0 beta 7" and the Morgan Multimedia Stream Switcher 0.95, DO NOT Install them together, chose one of them only if needed
Do not chose the G400 Filter if you do not have G400 graphic cards
Do not install the Bicubic Resizer Filter id you do not have any problem about video upside-down.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Nimo does have more codecs than what comes with ZoomPlayer. (If it really does include this Ace codec pack)

I have been using Zoom Player for long time, but only after I got Nimo I have been able to see or hear all of my different movies and tv-series (avis, mpgs, so on)

Gah, just when everything was looking peachy it turns out that it can't play everything. Or rather the visuals work but the audio on the .avi I want to watch is shot. It works on a friends computer...

The audio format is apparently:
"MPEG Layer-3,55 kBits/s,22,050 Hz, Stereo"

And the visuals run fine. Any thoughts?

do you really need to use WMP 7? If ya don't try Radlight, it's always worked on every sort of video file I've tossed at it so far. (comparatively WMP screws up) http://www.radlight.net/

And if you need to use WMP did you install the codec packs?

Thunder, did you made full install of Nimo Codec pack (not lite version)? Of course you need to unselect the 2-4 codecs manually.
