hmm... Subspace drive tests. Might work. It could be in the Unification War. Eishtmo is kind of against doing it, but me and Thor are all for it. Not sure about Goober5000.
Hmm...depends on how it's done. If I'm not mistaken intra-system drives were invented back in the aughties, and the discovery that inter-system jumps were possible was what started the Unification War. So if you wanted to have the first test of an intersystem subspace drive at the beginning of the UWar, that might be cool. You'd need the right story, and a good background - with lots of excitement. It hasn't been done before, so nobody knows what they'll find on the other side of the jump. Perhaps the jealousy of one faction having intersystem travel is what sparks the outbreak of the war.
