Stealth: Shh. He'll probably buy it.

And I was referring to the "virus" which is simply a text message reading "You have been infected with the Polish Virus. Please forward this message to everyone on your email list and delete your hard drive".

Go to Landover Baptist and read their forums, it doesn't make it any less fake. People play along with it in order to further fool those gullible people who believe.

I remember that site being featured on a childerens news program in the UK because thousands of people, also fooled by it had been writing in in disgust. They reassured everyone that no animals were harmed during the making. That was at least three years ago.

Ah Landover Baptist, one of the finest pieces of satire on the internet.

Gang, Bonzai Kitten is a joke. Its not real.  No cats were harmed. If it were real, it would be sick, but it isn't. That makes it funny.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

it's considered a hoax... a hoax is when you get an email saying, for example that whateverfile.exe is a virus, and you should search for it, and if you find it (it's usually some file that windows runs on) you should immediately reboot in dos mode, and delete it! (it of course gives all steps you should take to do this :) lol)

and i quote from my virus reference:

A hoax is a message, typically distributed via E-mail or newsgroups, which is written to deliberately spread fear, uncertainty and doubt. Just like the viruses they purport to describe, they are sent from user to user/s, slowing network and Internet traffic and causing damage 'per se', by wasting users time and by prompting well meaning, (albeit unnecessary) clean up procedures. These messages may be regarding completely fictitious viruses and trojans, or they may be misleadingly warning users about legitimate programs (a common target of past hoaxes was screensavers and more recently, Windows utilities). Hoaxes prey on the lack of technical knowledge and the goodwill of all those that receive a hoax. Generally, hoaxes are warnings about threats to your computer. They tend to follow a standard pattern, and should you receive an e-mail that contains the following characteristics, view it with doubt, if not downright suspicion.
  • Reports of a virus that can do massive damage to your pc - many even going so far as to say that critical hardware will be destroyed.
  • May sound unnecessarily technical (although often meaningless), thus taking advantage of many users fears of technology/the unknown.
  • May quote bogus announcements from Antivirus Industry experts, some even going so far as to provide a correct link to an AV site (which strangely enough, if visited, will most likely tell you that it's a hoax).
  • The message may be written in emotive language. That is, the message may be colored with upper case text and contain large numbers of exclamation marks (in order to emphasize the severity of the perceived threat and make the user more likely to forward the message).
  • Asks that you forward the message to as many people as possible. This is the most obvious line in a hoax. Warnings from reputable expert sources do not ask you to forward their notifications. It is this part of the text of the message in particular, that should immediately make wary users skeptical.

I have big plans, now if only I could see them through.

Damn... I need to find a link to that Brass Eye edition about the new drug, Cake. They managed to convince dozens of celebrities and even English MPs to come on the show to talk about the dangers of Cake, and how it was the biggest threat to youth today.

Uh-huh. By the way, you see that light blinking on yer modem now? That's me hacking you. You need to delete your IPs to be hack-safe, just like the email alerts tell you to.:D

Seriously, you just fell for one of the oldest jokes on the internet. I feel distinctly sorry for you, should you ever come across the Polish Virus.:p

I got this from raven2001 (or 2, whatever) dad! Fake or not it's very cruel (and funny)

Taken from http://truthorfiction.org

Summary of eRumor:
This email says there is a Japanese man in New York stuffing kittens into bottles and rearing them so they'll take on the shape of the bottle._ They are being called "bonsai" kittens and have become the rage in New York, China, Indonesia, and New Zealand._ The email refers you to the website at www.bonsaikitten.com

The Truth
The bonsai kitten website is a hoax, created as a joke by some students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology._ There are numerous published reports about the site, but one of the best is a article in USA Today from 2-20-2001by Janet Kornblum._ According to Kornblum, the site was set up shortly after Christmas, 2000, satirize ''the human belief of nature as commodity."_ Kornblum interviewed one of the creaters who used an alias, "Dr. Michael Wong Chang."_ He said one of the main aims was to "punish the hypocritical and easily offended by upsetting them, and to amuse those who understand."_ The result has been an international outcry by animal rights groups who say that even if the site is a joke, they object to the fact that it displays and could provoke animal cruelty._ In response to concerns from Internet readers, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals investigated the site and found no evidence of animal abuse._ No kittens have actually been put through the torture described on the site._ An FBI investigation was also opened.

The number of people this manages to fool simply astounds me.

It's not sick, it's blatantly fake, how the living **** would you fit a cat into one of those jars without breaking its neck? Think about it.

Good for a giggle at the reactions though.
