Anybody ever thought about Mechwarrior2 style beams? You pull the trigger, and they fire for a short period of time. Then you must wait until you can fire again. I would realy like this for the Unification War demo for the TVWP. I mean, Terrans developed laser beams before pulse laser cannons.

fire_wait combined with large energy consumption should do the trick.

you just need to tweak it a bit.

While were on beams, is there a range limitation before they stop doing damage (or stop moving)?

Could I make the laser bolt like 50,000 units long? Or would that come out funny.

I think that would end up coming out of the ship with 49,999 meters behind your gun...until it passed you that is...

It actually works! Exactly how I wanted it to! Well, almost, you can't swing it around like a beam sword, but it is close enough. I'm perfecting it now.
