Um... Day of the Triffids is a book. The Triffids are slow, man-eating plants. They're pretty harmless, because you can see them coming and kill 'em. Until a 'green meteor shower' at the start of the book (which I think is suppossed to be an accidental explosion of a bio-weapon sattelite), which blinds the population of the UK (and maybe other countries...). The book follows a few of the survivors, including a bloke who was in hospital for an eye operation and kept his sight, and generally is a post-apocalyptic sort of thing. I only read it about 10 years ago, though.
