Look at it from a user interface point of view: it was the way it was for ages. People knew that clicking on the banner took you to the forum root. Suddenly, its different and its damned annoying. Sure, the link right beneath it takes you to the same place. Fine. Okay, the other links take you to other places. Excellent. You know what? That's completely, utterly, totally beside the point. The banner, which performed one function has come to perform another. That's why there's a problem.

You'll notice that no one was *****ing and complaining that there was a redundant link. There's only people *****ing and complaining now that the interface has changed.

Call it a hunch: the old way didn't annoy people and the new way does.

Hrm. I thought I made "hunch" pretty clear. If not, I've added emphasis, and hopefully, its clear now.

You could always, I dunno, examine some facts:
1) people weren't complaining before
2) people are complaining now

I don't think we need a poll to see that something may have triggered these users' ire. could it be the change that the complainants are talking about? I think so. Sure, there's not numerical analysis going on here, but there is a small tidbit of logic.

People complain whenever anything changes around here, even if it's ultimately to their benefit.

I'm sure things will change when we upgrade to vB3.  People complained when we went from UBB to vB.  If there was a real valid backing to the complaint, sure.  But there's a handy link right underneath.

Well, on that point I do agree with him; I will admit that I viewed the UBB->vB move with some trepidation, but now that I have gotten used to it and have explored its new features, I can see that this is indeed quite superior.  As for this particular issue I do not really know which is better, but is it really that much of a problem? This is the third or fourth thread I have seen in the last week complaining about this, and until I read one of those I didn't notice the change at all...

yeah. going to the bottom of the page and click the "Hard Light Productions" link is just too much of a hassle to do. yep.
