Joe.

I have no set plans on how big to make it, but it will probably be a bit smaller than the Knossos... maybe.

Yes, smaller than the knossos would be ok (but not too much heh, make it at least 1500 m wide (the inside I mean)

I'm indifferent as to the positioning...

But here's a question - if we make the gate smaller, what's gonna happen if a ship which is too big for the gate comes rushing out of subspace?

I've been thinking about that one myself. The question actually needs to be narrowed down more, to "How will the game engine take it?"

I think that the engine would not have any problems with a Sathanas coming out of an Argo-sized Knossos, since it wouldn't need to actually fit through the Knossos - just appear there.

Of course, it would look quite dumb in a mission, but that's besides the point.

I have an even better question:

Why does the news headline say front/back, up/down all over, but never link to this page? hehe

I don't know if any one else said this but I though when you say front/back you mean along side the station (next to it) so ships would go through facing the big hole (round).

What about the portal facing the arcadia? so the ships warp in and out asif there going to crash into it or are coming from it?

I though the point of subspace was that your ships depart befoer they hit the hull? eh? So what would be the 'design flaw' in that?

That would be one of the shortest jumps in subspace history.

It'd be a heck of a time to hear 'DIVE DIVE!
Hit your BRAKES pilot!

Dragons would be the only things that could make it.  Maybe the myrm or uly.

And speaking of arcadia's, why is it that the 'hole' area is stronger than the rest of the ship?

Fire two helios' at the gold/yellow walls and you do like, 3-5% damage per pair.
Hit the platform area and you'll do around 10-15%

Because, as you should know, that news post is incomplete

You're right, Sandwich, the ship will just go through - just like how the player's ship will go inside an Orion class destroyer jumping into the area, and you'll be able to see the polys inside - but I wanted to know actually what would happen in the game universe   What actually would happen! Subspace field generator overload?

Anyway.... back on topic....

Last call, folks! What'll it be, top-bottom or front-back? ( @ Steak's news post...)
Top-Bottom has the reasoning, while Front-back hes the numbers. At the moment I'm leaning towards the front-back alignment, but there's still time to change my mind...
